What are my Medicare coverage choices?

There are two main ways to get your Medicare coverage — Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C).

Before you make a decision, you can get local, personalized Medicare counseling from the Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA).

You may have other Medicare options

Your Medicare may pay differently if you have other coverage, such as:

  • Employer-related coverage (i.e., retiree plans, COBRA).
  • Health insurance through your employer or your spouse’s employer.
  • TRICARE or Department of Veterans Affairs benefits.

You may have other options to help pay for Medicare if you are:

  • Low income.
  • A member of a tribe or have access through Indian Health Service.
