For Producers

Travel insurance license requirements

Any individual or business entity that will sell, solicit or negotiate travel insurance must have the travel line of authority specifically listed on their Washington state insurance producer license. Travel is not covered by holding life, disability (health), property or casualty lines of authority on your license.

Questions

You don’t need to make any changes to your license.

What if I want to obtain a new travel-only license?

There are no pre-licensing education (PLE) or exam requirements for a travel-only resident license. First-time resident applicants must complete an online application, pay the $25 limited-line application fee, and submit electronic fingerprints for a background check.

Exceptions

There is one exception to these requirements. If a licensed business entity (agency) wants to transact travel insurance business, it must:

Additional employees of the agency may transact travel business without a license, or without the travel line of authority on their license, as long as the agency and its DRLP are actively licensed with the travel line of authority.

The DRLP is responsible for assuring regulatory compliance by the agency and all its employees.
