What’s the difference between renewing and reinstating - for individuals

License renewals

If it's no more than 90 days before or 60 days after your expiry date, you may renew your license. Note: If you renew within the 60-day period following your expiry date, you’ll be charged late-renewal fees.

License reinstatements

If you're 61 days - but not more than 12 months - past your expiry date, you will need to reinstate your license and pay additional fees for reinstatement.

Note: If it's been more than 12 months since your license was active, you'll need to follow the requirements for first-time applicants, but your application must be submitted via the Washington state online system.  Only first-time applicants may submit applications via NIPR's system.
