Topic/subject

Definition

C&D order

A cease and desist (C&D) order prohibits starting or continuing a specific action. See the drop-down menu in the search portion of the orders lookup tool.

Effective date

The date the actions listed in an order go into effect.

Entity

Any person, company or organization named as a party on the order.

Financial exam

A review and evaluation of a company’s financial condition, transactions, and affairs to determine if the company is complying with the insurance code. See the drop-down menu in the search portion of the orders lookup tool.

Fine (consent order)

A monetary penalty imposed for violations of insurance code. This is usually done through a settlement agreement commonly referred to as a consent order. See the drop-down menu in the search portion of the orders lookup tool.

Issue date

The date an order was sent out by the OIC.

Location

The city and state where the entity is established.

Market-conduct exam

A review and evaluation of the insurance operations of a company to determine if the company is engaging in practices that are harmful to consumers. See the drop-down menu in the search portion of the orders lookup tool.

Mentor

An insurance producer in good standing, assigned to a probationary licensee. The mentor's responsibilities include but are not limited to: observation and review of records; meeting regularly with probationary licensee; and reporting about the probationary licensee's compliance with order at the interval specified in the order.

Name

The individual agent/producer, broker, organization, or company defined as the entity, searchable using the orders lookup tool.

Order number

Electronic identification number assigned to orders, searchable using the orders lookup tool. The first two digits of the order number are the year the order was created and the last four are a sequential assignment.

Order year

The year an order was issued. See the "View Orders Issued by Year" drop-down menu using the orders lookup tool.

Order summary

A brief explanation of the action involving an entity (company or person).

Probationary order

A consent order that issues a restricted license, sometimes involving a mentor.

Revocation order

An order that cancels the license or authority of an entity. See the drop-down menu in the search portion of the orders lookup tool.

Suspension order

An order that temporarily stops or takes away the license or authority of an entity. See the drop-down menu in the search portion of the orders lookup tool.
