Instructional plans

Providers must develop and maintain an instructional plan for each PLE course. The plan must be updated yearly and it must be available upon request by the commissioner.

Lecture courses

One lecture course instructional plan with an outline for each lecture course attached is acceptable if the same plan applies to all lecture courses.

Instructional plans should include:

  1. Provider name,
  2. Date the instructional plan will be implemented,
  3. Refund policy,
  4. Instructor name for each course,
  5. Customer service office hours and contact information for students,
  6. Classroom location for each course,
  7. Classroom policies and expectations for attendance - and homework, if any - including course contact hours and completion requirements,
  8. A list of the instructional aids that will be used in the classroom i.e. PowerPoint, flip chart, white board, etc.,
  9. A description of any learning materials and resources provided to students in addition to the lecture i.e. handouts, audio tapes, video tapes, access to the online course, etc.,
  10. A description of the process you will use to record student attendance with a sample of the attendance record you will use attached,
  11. A description of the process you will use to record make-up time for a student that missed part of the class with a sample of the attendance record for make-up time attached,
  12. A description of the process for the student to obtain the course certificate of completion, and
  13. A detailed, timed outline of the topics for each course. (You can use the exam content outline by adding the time for each topic).

Self-study courses

One self-study course instructional plan with an outline for each self-study course attached is acceptable if the same plan applies to all self-study courses.

Instructional plans should include:

  1. Provider name,
  2. Date the instructional plan will be implemented,
  3. Refund policy,
  4. Customer service office hours and contact information for students,
  5. Website URL to register for the courses,
  6. Course completion requirements,
  7. List of instructional aids that will be used in the course i.e. video, practice quizzes and final exam,
  8. Description of any learning materials and resources provided to students in addition to the online or correspondence course material i.e. print-outs, audio tapes, video, etc.,
  9. Description of the process you will use to record student study hours with a sample of the study log you will use attached,
  10. Description of the process for the student to obtain the course certificate of completion, and
  11. A detailed outline of the topics for each course. (You can use the exam content outline if it matches the outline of your course).
