Flood water in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Chehalis

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Federal disaster assistance is available for Washington residents impacted by December’s flooding, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced on Saturday.

Individual aid is available to people in Chelan, Grays Harbor, King, Lewis, Pacific, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, and Whatcom counties, as well as numerous tribal communities.

The action makes assistance available for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and families recover from the effects of the disaster. The funds can’t be used for losses already covered by insurance, but may be used if you were underinsured and your flood policy didn’t cover all of your loss.

People in need of federal assistance can apply online, by using the FEMA app, or by calling 800-621-3362

Anyone with questions about their insurance can contact the Office of the Insurance Commissioner’s Consumer Protection team online or at 800-562-6900.

The atmospheric rivers began in Western Washington on Dec. 8, 2025, and prompted evacuation orders for more than 100,000 residents, while damaging almost 4,000 homes and causing an estimated $182.5 million in damage to public infrastructure.
