How much time does CATS Data Entry training take?

The training is self-paced. Work at your own speed and take as long as you need to read, watch videos and practice the steps.

We suggest you allow four hours to complete the training, but you do not have to complete it all at once.

Keep track of time you spend on this training, and enter a Volunteer Activity Timesheet!

What do I need to take the training?

  • Internet access
  • A SHIBA ID – Get this from your volunteer coordinator
  • A CATS password – The eSHIBA Help Desk sent this to you after your volunteer coordinator entered your Resource Record (a form you filled out when you started volunteering for SHIBA) into CATS. If you can’t find it, check your junk email folder (where your email provider automatically routes anything that may look like Spam). Or, follow the steps for Forgot password, to have a new temporary password sent to you.

Will my practice affect live CATS data?

No, if you practice in the CATS Training system. CATS Training is a database that looks and works exactly like the regular CATS system, but CATS Training does not
create or affect actual data (it is for practice only).

For this training, all practice instructions will link you to CATS Training. Your SHIBA ID and CATS password work in both regular CATS and in CATS Training.
