Legislation and rules

Unlike other areas of regulation where the federal government plays a significant role, insurance is almost entirely regulated at the state level. The Policy and Legislative Affairs division works with all stakeholders, from consumer advocates to insurers, in adopting regulations and pursuing legislation that protects consumers, while also maintaining the vitality of a key economic sector. We also work with the agency’s other divisions to provide the commissioner with the research and analysis necessary for decision making.
