Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner

Questions to ask yourself

Ask yourself these questions if you're concerned about your agent.

Is he or she licensed? You can look up your agent or broker to make sure he or she is licensed to sell insurance in Washington state.

What is his or her complaint history? Call us at 1-800-562-6900 to find out if your agent has had complaints filed against him or her.

Are you comfortable with the offer? If it sounds too good to be true, it may be. Give us a call at 1-800-562-6900 if you have questions or need some advice.

Where’s the proof? Never pay for a premium in cash. Pay by check or money order made out to the insurance company directly or to the agency – not to the individual agent or broker. Also, always request a receipt.

Where’s your policy? You should receive a copy of your insurance policy specifically outlining your coverage and its limitations within a reasonable period after your purchase. If you do not receive it, question your agent or broker. If there is no satisfactory explanation for the delay, call us at 1-800-562-6900. You may not have the insurance coverage you paid for.
