Key definitions

The NRRA, the U.S. Code (www.gpo.gov) and Washington House Bill 1694 (PDF, 102KB) (www.leg.wa.gov) include several definitions relevant to Washington's implementation of NRRA requirements:

Commercial Insurance - Property and casualty insurance pertaining to a business, profession, occupation, nonprofit organization, or public entity. HB 1694 § 1(4)(c) (PDF, 102KB) (www.leg.wa.gov) has more information.

Exempt commercial purchaser - Any person purchasing commercial insurance that, at the time of placement, meets the requirements in RCW 48.15.010 (www.leg.wa.gov) or 15 U.S.C. § 8206 (5) (www.gpo.gov).

Home state - Usually the state in which an insured maintains its principal place of business, but see RCW 48.15.010 (www.leg.wa.gov) or 15 U.S.C. § 8206 (6) (www.gpo.gov) for complete information.

Principal place of business - The home state where the insured maintains its headquarters and where the insured's high-level officers manage the business activities of the insured. RCW 48.15.010 (www.leg.wa.gov) and HB 1694 § 1(5)(c) (PDF, 102KB) (www.leg.wa.gov) have more information.
