Some health benefits are required by either state or federal law—or both— and must be in all health insurance plans.

What it takes to create a new mandated health benefit

  • Legislation must be passed that includes a description of the benefit's effectiveness and it's social impact.
  • The Legislature may ask the Department of Health to do Sunrise Review of the new benefit to prove it doesn't harm the the cost and availability of health insurance.
