What to consider before you buy a discount health plan

Research the savings

  • Can you get the same savings without the discount health plan?
  • Ask your provider if there are other ways you can get a discount on your health care services.

Check with your provider

  • Does your provider (pharmacy, doctor or hospital) accept the discount health plan?
  • Check with them before you enroll in a discount plan.

Understand how the discount works

Review the written plan disclosure information. It contains all the discount plan's terms and conditions. It should explain:

  • The discount benefit
  • Processing fees and periodic charges
  • Any limitations, exclusions or exceptions affecting the discount benefits
  • Any processes or conditions to receive the discount benefit
  • Cancellation procedures and refund rights
  • Renewal and termination conditions
  • Complaint procedures, including filing a complaint with our office
  • How to contact the company (phone number, website and mailing address)

Find out if a discount plan is licensed to do business in our state.
