Specialty Producers

A specialty producer license authorizes a vendor and its employees and authorized representatives to offer and sell to, enroll in, and bill and collect premiums from customers for insurance covering communications equipment on a master, corporate, group, or individual policy basis.

Forms:

  1. Specialty Producer Application (PDF 42Kb) completed and signed by the applicant, or an officer of the applicant     
  2. A list of each additional location at which it intends to offer communications equipment insurance to Washington consumers
  3. A copy of the Articles of Incorporation or Formation if a corporation or LLC
  4. An appointment, INS-18 (PDF 13Kb), as an agent completed by each authorized insurer(s) authorizing the applicant to represent the insurer.
    • The appointment is due at time of application, unless the appointment is going to be submitted electronically through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) within thirty (30) calendar days of the acceptance of the first insurance application executed by the agent with the insurer.
    • An affiliation, INS-18 (PDF 13Kb), completed by the applicant authorizing the supervising agent to represent the applicant. The supervising agent must be licensed under RCW 48.17.060.
    • An outline of the training program used to train employees of the licensed vendor about the communications equipment insurance program
    • A copy of the brochure regarding the program that will be available to the customers at every location where communication equipment insurance is sold.
    • Unless a fiduciary relationship is desired, completion of the Specialty Producer Premium Handling Authority (PDF 14Kb) form by the insurer signed by an officer of the insurer verifying that premiums need not be segregated from other funds received by the vendor.
    • The policy or certificate of coverage and rates must be filed and approved by OIC as outlined in RCW 48.18.100 and RCW 48.19.040. The insurer must certify that the policy or certificate of coverage and the rates have been approved and that the wording on the written material is exactly as approved.

Appointment fee. If the appointment is being done electronically through NIPR, fees are to be submitted to them. Do not send $20 to our office for the appointment if it is being processed through NIPR.
