Fingerprinting requirements

A fingerprint card is required when you apply for any resident license in Washington state. Non-resident applicants do not need to submit a fingerprint card UNLESS you are applying for an adjuster license.

REMEMBER: Applicants for an Adjuster license, whether a resident or non-resident, must submit a fingerprint card.

How do I submit my fingerprints?

Submit your fingerprints on 1 fingerprint card.

We accept:

  • Any standard 8 x 8 fingerprint card.
  • Prints must be in black printers ink only.
  • We cannot accept a card unless the following fields have been completed:
    • Printed name
    • Signature
    • Date of Birth
    • Sex
    • Race
    • Height
    • Weight
    • Eyes
    • Hair
    • Place of Birth
    • Social Security Number
  • Electronically taken prints, as long as they are printed on a hard copy fingerprint card, will be accepted.

We do not accept electronically submitted (LiveScan) fingerprints.

Where can I get my fingerprints done?

Generally, your local law enforcement agency or city/county jail provides fingerprinting services.

For residents, most PearsonVue exam sites offer fingerprinting services through their third party vendor, L1 Identity Solutions. For more information, or to schedule a reservation, call L1 Identity Solutions at 1-866-761-8069.

How much does it cost?

Our online system will include a $45.25 fingerprint processing fee when you apply however, this is the fee charged to run a background check on your prints. Depending on where you have your fingerprints done, you may be charged for that service.
